Thanksgiving Checklist

three to four weeks before

  • Start a detailed list of everything you will need for dinner. Consult a recipe book for ingredients
  • Send invitations or a cleverly written email. See HP's invitation section to create your own!
  • Decide who is going to help you with dinner
  • If you are ordering your honey-baked ham or turkey, place the order now!

two weeks before

  • Complete your shopping list, and don't forget flowers and candles! You can find printable lists in our Around The House section.
  • Choose your music. Now is the time to burn a new CD of all of your favorite music.
  • Confirm dinner guests and what they are bringing (if anything)
  • Order your pumpkin and apple pies!

one week before

  • Avoid the rush. Do your grocery shopping now.

at least one day before

  • Clean the house (or hire someone to do it)
  • Take the turkey out of the freezer

the morning of

  • Organize the kitchen
  • Decorate the house with festive decorations that you can make yourself. See Holidays & Events for printable ideas.
  • Set the table
  • Chill glasses
  • Be sure to put the turkey in the oven early!
  • Have fun cooking

the party begins

  • Lay out the food and beverages
  • Light the candles. You may even want to make your own festive votives.
  • Turn on the music
  • Invite your guests into your home

after the party

  • Make the TV couch potatoes help you clean!
